Soto Cano Air Base, commonly known as Palmerola Air Base, is a Honduran military installation and home of the Honduras Air Force and the Air Force Academy. For an international competition, this site was chosen as an alternative to replace Toncontin International Airport which is located some 4 miles from the center of Tegucigalpa, Honduras and is considered to be one of the most dangerous in the world due to its proximity to mountainous terrain, its short runway and difficult approach to all aircraft, specially in inclement weather. MGA was part of the team commissioned by InterAirports, the company that administers all four international airports in Honduras, to develop their submission.
